It was a moment that seemed like slow motion as she pinched a popcorn kernel in each hand and placed and then pushed in each popcorn kernel into each ear canal. ...That night we went in to Wee Care Pediatrics and 4 adults and an older sister were not able to hold Mabelle still long enough to get out these 2 kernels. The next day Mabelle was able to get into an Ear Nose Throat specialist, and he was unable to have her sit still to get the kernels out. ...Since I was a Newborn ICU nurse I begged the doctor to please let me bring her back for another chance after we had drugged her up with conscience sedation.

After a three week stay in Primary Childrens due to a heart problem, 4lbs 13oz Tyler came home to his family and has been a joy ever since. ... I remember when they were checking out the preschool and I thought to myself “Oh my goodness I hope her mom puts Addison in my preschool because she is soooooooooo stinkin cute!!!!!!!” ...She has a huge imagination and loves to play pretend..one minute she's a mom to her babies, next she's cooking up some dinner in her kitchen, then she's on her pretend phone selling a house. She has one older sister Cassie and we have 2 dogs Daisy and Zoey, She adores Cassie and the feeling is mutual. ... She is quite a chatty little gal and a good helper around our house, we love her to pieces.

She is (and always has been) a nurturer; I'll often hear her while playing with her dolls say, "oh! ... She is always very caring of her little brother (which at times can be a little much for him. ... Often while driving I'll hear her from the back say "tell me about that mommy." Once she asked me to tell her about the "wires," it took me a while to figure out she meant the telephone wires. :) We are so luck to have Abby in our little famiy.

Her language skills exploded early so we sometimes forget she is still 2 and expect a lot from her, especially when she is doing everything the 4/5 yr old class is doing :) And YES i completely endorse bragging about your kids! They arent marketing it very well b/c you see the sign and flyers on your way out but at the cashier you can donate a bag of groceries for $7 or funds toward a turkey or ham for $10. We have been through some tough times in the last 6 yrs and we still arent rich by any means but I am very thankful that we have a warm home, food, and my kids arent in the hospital or something so I have been trying to give back as much as I can this year. Just thought I’d pass along opportunities to you as well so we can teach our kids to be thankful for the comforts we have and to become aware that not all kids have these basic needs. ...(see also, if you havent already my posts on “donate coats and blankets” and “local sub for santa”)

The girls and I got out all the Christmas stuff to decorate for the Holidays and I came across this that my former 4/5 yr old student Kolby made me last year. I don’t know if its suppose to be a necklace but it was still attached to the ribbon they used to decorate the plate of cookies it accompanied. I wore it all evening as we listened to Christmas music and decorated. ... Thanks Kolby!!

I highly encourage independence here at preschool away from home to give these little ones a sense of self confidence that will help them have a much more enjoyable transition to kindergarten. You as a parent can help as well by choosing shoes that are easier for them to handle and teaching them to put them on themselves. I know it takes a little more time when you are trying to rush out the door but it is well worth it when you see the "I did it myself!" smile on their faces :) Yes you'll have to tie them if laces are involved but having them put them on is a HUGE step.

Tell your kids to keep that thumb on top, they ALL wanna flip thier hand over. Instead, encourage them to move the paper where they need it with the other hand while keeping scissor hand in the correct position. ...Instead of just drilling your kids with books or flashcards, draw the shapes, have them cut them out and glue them into a picture like this witch for Halloween. ... Notice if your child does this and help them understand where to put the glue and why.

I'm sure you saw your child's but here are some others to peek at. This is a fun and easy project you can do with your child anytime. Paper, glue, and odds and ends around the house. Literally sometimes I just start randomly walking around the house opening closests, drawers, cupboards, poking aound in the office amazed at what I find that can be used in simple art projects like "make a monster"

Be aware of we are teaching our children in the way of eating habits as we cannot and should not rely on the outside world, especially in America (even with the "healthy" choices at McDonalds...whatever!!) ...Our goal with kids isn't to get them on the zone, but to get them to think and make good choices about what they eat. ... Pasta, white bread, and white rice are not that good for you, stuff that's red, yellow, green and found in the fruit and vegetable aisle is good for you. ...Look at your plate, make a fist, eat that much meat every meal; turn your hand over and fill it with nuts and seeds, eat that much good fat, fill the rest of your plate with stuff you found in the fruit and vegetable aisle.

In the afternoon 4/5 yr old class there are 4 boys and 2 girls. During playground time the boys were running around playing mutant ninja turtles yelling pizza! ... so the girls started piling up the little pea gravel yelling "free samples! ... so the boys would then run over and sit at the table and the girls threw the rocks on there and the boys pretended to chow down. this happened over and over, all giggles...so funny!

A lot of parents think it was fun back when they played outside as kids, but since that kind of thing presents at least SOME danger (no matter how tiny), why not skip it and replace it with organized sports (they still get fresh air!), educational activities (won’t hurt on those Harvard applications!) ... The problem is that more and more research is showing that PLAY – plain old, run-around, parent-free PLAY – is the building block of everything we are trying to nurture in our kids: Responsibility, communication and, most of all, it turns out, something called “self-regulation.” ... The classic self-regulation experiment involved giving 4-year-olds a choice: Eat one marshmallow now, or wait for the researcher to come back in a few minutes and you can have TWO. ... But if we don’t give our kids time to just plain play – and if schools don’t give them that, either — we are depriving them of the one “enrichment activity” that just may be the key to…everything.
